— About this trip
Grasse, Gorges du Loup & the Hill Villages
Most visitors to the Riviera spend their time on the coast, which means the inland hills remain genuinely unspoilt even in the height of summer. Forty minutes from Nice, the landscape changes completely – the sea disappears, the roads narrow and wind upward, and the towns feel more Provence than Côte d'Azur.
Grasse is the starting point: the perfume capital of the world, where most of the major fragrance houses source their flowers and where the craft of perfumery has been practised since the sixteenth century. The Molinard factory offers free tours that go behind the scenes in a way that is surprisingly engaging even for those with no particular interest in perfume.
Beyond Grasse, the Gorges du Loup is one of the most dramatic drives in the south of France – a narrow road through a limestone canyon where the river has carved walls hundreds of metres high. Gourdon, at the end of the gorge, is a small perched village at 760 metres with views that take in the entire coast from Nice to the Esterel.
Hotel Pickup
Your driver meets you in the lobby at the agreed time.
Grasse
Visit the Fragonard or Molinard factory for a free guided tour — both walk you through the history of perfume production and end in a boutique. The old town is worth a short wander — Notre Dame du Puy cathedral houses works by Rubens, and the views from the terraces stretch down to the coast.
Gorges du Loup
The canyon drive is experienced from the vehicle – your driver takes the scenic road through the gorge. There are several pull-off points for photos.
Gourdon
A small perched village to explore on foot. Officially classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The château gardens are sometimes open for a small fee.
Hotel Drop-off
Your driver returns you to your hotel at the end of the trip.
